i probably would've been excited about this if they'd made it before they'd became a bad cover band of themselves.

Chris you realize just three years ago you brought their new LP over to my apartment. In that amount of time they became a bad cover band?

you can do whatever you want in the studio and get a bazillion takes and tweak, and the last album still was kinda tame, but it was good and it fit them for now.

they're old, i get that, but the old stuff had heart and intensity to it, all the footage i see now of their live performances, it comes across as completely dispassionate with no real energy, just the energy of the stadium and lights. vocals flat, lazy and off kilter to the song, guitar playing with no force behind it.

live they just look like they're running through the paces trying to get it over with instead of being in the moment and putting some soul into it.

there's plenty of people that make good albums that i would still never attend their show for any reason other than to be able to say i saw them live.

as much as i hate to say it, i don't think i could bring myself to go see Dylan for the exact same reason. it's upsetting to me when an artist loses the passion for the work i fell in love with them from. inevitable, i suppose. 40 years of playing the same shit all the time, but that doesn't mean i deserve to sit through lazy renditions when those songs are why i care in the first place.
