BEAK>

Geoff Barrow's (portishead) Beak>. For me better than the last portishead album. Enjoy.

Just click the pick already and get lost in it.

From openers unassuming long payoff , shift to drony experimentalism 'ham green' track three, straight to stereolabish 'i know' track 4, on and on it's background music that still demands attention and repeat plays.

Gonna revisit last portishead album and check back as thinking my distate was a matter of perspective i've only recently gained. more on that later.

Full Circle

Kick back and relax with your choice of bong load, case of natty, or main squeeze....life's about to get jingled all the way.
How did it slip by that the creepy vhs I had all these years was a mst3k episode? Did we already know it and it just got drank out of memory?
I seem to recall most of us commenting that it would've made a great episode. I also remember that outsiders, insiders, and random "party people" becoming quite upset at the high frequency of plays this one got at the dome.
Watch it and let me know if you think we could have done better or not.

By the way, is our "after the jump" code missing? How does that shit work?

Oh, and also, i guess I don't know why i can't post the video... Link instead.
Guess which option I chose for relaxation.
"kid, that's not how you play a rifle"

I should get to work. Santa will have to wait untill christmas. Happy Halloween.

Bat for Lashes One Week Only

Bat for Lashes 2+2
Please click above link if you haven't watched. Bat for lashes documentary on Pitchfork for this week only. They're always great, this one hit me as hard as the Atlanta Scene doc, and it's a far more limited scope, just one artist, one album.

The first album, i quick judged as a Bjork ripoff and subsequently ignored. A good one but not that special. The second album, Two Suns far more intrigued for a couple listens, but not overwhelmed.

After watching the doc, i can't stop listening to Two Suns. I wish more artists did this, but coinciding with an albums release (a la Blakroc, another must watch. RZA plays guitar w/black keys on one). It puts not only the recording process, but the context and approach of where the essence of the album is coming from on display.you're instantly focused with references and inferences when you listen to it afterwards. It doesn't hurt the doc that she's intelligent and attractive i suppose, but the music is undeniably great on it's own, I'm smitten all around. Better late than never. Click the pick for the album silly.

Happy Halloween

No wonder they canceled the news.

2 yr anniversary!

Chunks brought it up, 2 year anniversary of danger blog in a matter of days, i've made peter shirts in the past, this seems equally as exciting.

Rick, talk to evan, who's into lame 90's music, and see if he'll make some shit happen even though i've shitted on him publicly in a "do better you're lame" sense. Toys R Us north charleston doesn't cut it regardless if there's a lambo in the lot or not. They made me take my hat off for an Applebee's atmosphere!!!! I know he's sympathetic!

Got designs and posters in the bank just need to know they can happen for real. Milestones and shit. We've accomplished something as a group, the rest of the world can fuck off. Seriously. The world hates us. Or hates you. We're intriguing. Either way. You/we suck. lets make fun sexy time party wear!? Shut up.!.Get a job you loser. Jesus Rick is worthless! Kisses!

If every day of my life had a moment as perfect as this...

Peter! New Daniel Johnston

If you're not familiar, watch The Devil and Daniel Johnston . Your missing a piece of goodness in your life. A must see for music heads. If you are familiar, get this now. I'd enjoyed aspects of prior albums, but his looming personality always pushed it more than the music. The new album is awesome, the first album that sounds like "real music" instead of just the whimsy of a wonderful crazy person, as wonderful as that whimsy was. His prior lo-fi has it's place, this actually puts him production wise where he deserved to be, as opposed to just another wesley willis "i love him cause he's crazy". Shit is just good pop songs.

And Peter, he's playing Caine's on the 23rd. I will hate you if you don't go see him for us. Tickets still available.

The Chap

Surprise, more ghostly. 'Carlos Walter Wendy Stanley' came on random, one of the most off kilter but still enjoyable songs i'd heard in a bit. Peep game whoadi.

Where The Wild Things Are Is Where You Should Be

It's beautiful to look at, keeps you engaged the whole time, encourages emotional responses without demanding them and leaves room to enjoy thinking about it afterwards. It's not a movie, it's a Film and it's the best one i've seen this year.

There is no valid excuse to not see this as soon as possible in a theater.

Figured enough with the talking about it and post the damn thing. Toro Y Moi. Feel it.

Human Nature

AV Club had a year of flops posting on Human Nature. Charlie Kaufman written, Michel Gondry directed. Watched it with rick awhile back and it's appropriately absurd and hilarious. A must see for our general mindset.

However, was more excited at the potential of a Nathan Rabin line in the middle of the article.

"We must change something essential about ourselves if we ever hope to get laid. And what is growing up, if not an epic quest to get laid?"

One of the rare times i'm stopped in my tracks while reading an article and end up re-reading and pondering over and over again.

From what little i've learned, attempting to grow up is a lifelong battle and the epic quest is constant small scale reinvention and approach to little avail.

Japandroids: The Boys Are Leaving Town

I think one of the things that makes Post-Nothing so good is how much in lock step these two guys are with each other. They're both just bashing out holy awesome loud on exactly the same wavelength, and it makes something simple come across incredibly well.

On Repeat- Girls "Hellhole Ratrace"

Initially, my entry point for this album was Headache, a very Beach Boys-esque, hazy, languid, ballad that is sadly unrepresented on the internet. It's okay, this song is more epic and sad and heartbreaking anyway. I discovered it this morning when i clicked my ipod back one to many tracks. The video does very little for me. I suggest listening thru headphones, by yourself, while sobbing if possible.

A little background: Girls singer Christopher Owens was born into the Children of God cult, which like most cults is none to awesome. This context really amps up the power of the song for me- he knows he's a weird sad-sack, but goddammit he doesn't want to be.

New: Anti-Pop Consortium 'Flourescent Black'

Gun Control

This got me thinking.

I don't usually like to start political discussions on here, but this is one i feel rather strongly about.

Guns are cool. They are loud and go band and i'd love to go to a firing range and blast a few rounds off. But i don't want one for myself, and i frankly i don't want ones for anyone else.

war games are fun, but i'm rational enough to recognize they are just games. maybe that should qualify me to own a gun. someone recently asked me if i was going to get one "now that i have a family." i was a little appalled.

it's been my experience that the people i know that own guns, or a least want them, and the ones who need them the least. that is to say, they are poor candidates for gun ownership- rash, irresponsible, stupid.

so what do we say? i lean very liberal here- i feel gun laws should be even more stringent, and don't necessarily feel the 2nd amendment is appros for the modern world. what say you?

Anyone want to see Atlas Sound?

The Audubon Catalog

Stumbled across this site while trying to help my sister locate representations of Whip-poor-wills. One of the original Aududbon catalogs in it's entirety for you to peruse. Stunning illustrations, and a wealth of information on many birds i didn't even know existed.

Case in point- the Carolina Parakeet seen above. Made extinct by dinner plates and ladies fashion.

Ghostly Kills It

Press play and read you goofs.

Two Dots - Lusine
Every once in a while a label comes along and can do no wrong for a spell. Motown, Factory Records, on and on. Ninja Tune had their shit together for ages, Quannum had backpacker hip-hop on lock for sooo long. In the here and now, Ghostly International is my shit.

For several years anything gotten is super rad, artists found and enjoyed haphazardly end up being attached unbeknownst. It's a goldmine even if you have only a passing interest in what's going on in poppy electronic music.

The latest gushing obsession is the most recent Lusine release A Certain Distance. Nods to electronic music from the last 20+ years wrapped up in a perfectly crafted package. Great stuff going on: apparently Adult Swim bump worthy grooves, lush vocals, skittish glitch, robot dance jams, bumpy house beats, enveloping noise. It's awesome. Just awesome.

Every artist on the label is more than worth spending repeats with. Working on a personal comp for uninitiated, it's all so effing good you're lucky i only rambled this long. If you didn't already get the School of Seven Bells, Deastro, or Matthew Dear records i publicly pissed my pants over, begin here and try not to get sucked in.

The Girlfriend Experience

http://www.wildaboutmovies.com/images_7/GirlfriendExperiencePoster.jpg

Before I throw some good and bad things at you I want to talk a little about how I got into this movie. Sasha Grey was first porn star whose name I learned. She's hot! And I get to see her naked! And she does porn, hardcore to boot (Rick, this means there's penetration). I had to see this movie just for her, to see how she acts. To see why Soderbergh put her in it. I mean I know what the movie is about but why? Why a pron star? Not only have I never seen a pron star act well but how will she do with a movie that lasts longer then 5 minutes?

Good:
Sasha Grey - I thought she did a good job. I would never have guessed she was a porn star.
Length of the movie - sitting at a buck fifteen it cleverly did it's job as a sort of documentary without getting boring or going to far.

Bad:
There is no rewatchability. Once you see it, that's it. Sasha Grey is only naked for like 5 seconds so that's not bringing me back. Besdies all the hot girl jokes that I'd like to make, Documentaries can be great but I can never put one at the top of a list.

If you see this, watch the bonus features...you'll see Soderbergh, it's really hard for me to say/type this without laughing, but he actually says he heard about Sasha Grey through an article. I can't remember which magazine but I know it wasn't connected to pron in any way. There's only one way you hear about a porn star.

Tyson

.
Mike Tyson has to be one of the most fascinating sports figures ever. How can a man be so powerful in the ring and be so weak outside of it. That’s the question the film takes head on. Hopefully, this film will interest you even if you hate boxing or Mike Tyson. The movie does not skip on any section of his life and what a life it’s been. It is an in-depth psychological study.

I am a fan of Mike Tyson. He’s no hero of mine but he is riveting to watch and listen to. Any time a Mike Tyson fight is on TV I watch it. I especially like the highlight reels where they show one after another. Combat sports interest me because of the mental toughness it takes to compete in them. Mike talks at length about what it takes to be a fighter. Even more interesting is what creates someone who would want to fight in the first place.

Most documentaries get a variety of opinions from many commentators to tell their story. Tyson has only interviews with the man himself. That may seem kind of one-sided but the reality of the film is quite different. It shows a man at war with himself. The filmmaker has said that he sees the movie as a self portrait. It feels like a long therapy session, which of course I loved. I think this film is essential viewing. This is one of my favorite movies of the year.

Zombieland

Spoiler free

.
I went and saw the midnight premier last night. It was fantastic, instant classic. The movie isn’t really a horror film it’s more a comedy. I recommend you go see it in the theaters, it benefits from crowd participation. This ones gonna be a top 5 contender for the end of the years best of list. The cast is all great particularly Woody Harrelson doing his thing. Also Jesse Eizenberg (or as he’s know in my house fake Michael Cera) does an excellent job being nerdy. WARING don’t read any review or IMDB pages there are some things you don’t want to know going into it. I didn’t even know the plot prior to seeing it and I think it better for it.
Bad Lieutenant - Never Cry Another Tear

I haven't actually listened to this yet but i figured with the people involved it would peak the interest of the danger crew

No V-games for a whole weekend?!?! WEAK!!!!!

bon bons and all that good stuff

chunky product review- Klipsch Image S4 earphones

I don't know if any of you are still using the earbuds that came with your ipod; i would hope that you aren't. They are painful and sound shit. apple are real bastards for not upping their game in that category.

anyway..

i was. until i started walking a year or two ago i only used my ipod in my car or house, and didn't need in-ear phones. when mowing the summer i was forced to use giant over-ear phones to hear over the noise of the mower. no good.

my birthday was last week and i decided this year to actually brainstorm on a few things i would like. i've started keeping a little notebook by my computer to write down ideas when the come to me (i forget everything all the time now. anyone else?), and the top three things on my list were earbuds, running shoes, and a camera tripod.

i did a little research and came across this review. paid 80 plus a few dollars shipping from amazon, came yesterday.

if you still have your apple earbuds, buy these.

if you have some other cheapies, buy these.

if you have some other expensive earbuds, ask for these for christmas.

super comfortable, attractive design, and jawbone rattling bass. you need these. IN YOUR EAR.
be careful tho if you do any music listening in dangerous places- jogging/riding bikes along busy roads, while cattle ranching, etc. you won't hear anything coming up on you till the last second.

so next on my list is the running shoes. anyone have any recomendations? i've read less padding is actually better; has anyone else read this whole debate on heel strike vs toe strike? mike v?
