Dark Knight

Now that everyones seen the film lets have a round table discussion. so if you still havent seen it stop reading now. ill start it off.

I think this is the best movie of the year so far. furthermore, the best superhero movie ever. If you thinking Iron man was better V, well your wrong. while iron man had humor, it did not have originality. That film was simply a well executed super hero story. the dark knight is trying for much more. achieving it and then some. i knew all the twist coming in Iron Man, but i enjoyed the journey. Dark knight i didn't know what would happen. some of the stuff i was sure was going to happen didnt. for example joker did not die, and the girl did die. wow. The whole movie gave me the feeling that anything could happen. how often does that happen.

Does Heath Ledger deserve an Oscar?

He deserves any/every award available.

To quote Alfred when asked (in Batman Begins) if he'd known Rachel Dawes her whole life: "Not yet."
I don't really like these greatest x of all time arguments; it feels reductive and unproductive. Instead lets focus on nuance and subtlety, something i think that this movie and heath ledger's performance show in spades. Is this the greatest portrayal of the joker to date? I would say yes, with the qualifier that the only other jokers that I'm familiar with are ceaser romero (adam west batman) and Jack Nicholson. I'm unfamiliar with the cartoon jokers, and if there were any earlier jokers from the the 1940's batman serial, but i feel pretty safe in saying that ledgers joker is the best joker. He's menacing and hilarious, truly frightening but strangely empathetic. Every time he was on screen i was frightened that he would hurt somebody, yet i never yearned for the scene to be over.

Ledger's performance in conjunction with the characters overall design (costume, hair, make-up) was perfect and wholly effective. Particularly i liked ledgers joker voice, the way he leaned on his R's like a cane. Oh and the hair. Not so much the way it looked, but the way ledger played with it. Does he deserve and Oscar? I don't know, i feel like that the same way i feel about that greatest x of all time argument, but i guess want to see him get it. The performance deserves a spotlight.

Will this film break all the records?

Probably not the 100 meter dash. fuck this question.

What's gonna happen in the sequel?

As long as it's Nolan/Bale, i seriously doubt the joker will be recast. It's a real shame heath ledger shit the bed on this one, b/c he would have sold me on a sequel being absolutely necessary. I suppose they'll bring back two/face, though now that he's creation story has been told he's kind of a drag. I could have done without the scene at the end with gordon's family. The only interesting story left to tell with two/face is a redemption story, ala anakin skywalker/darth vader. Marinate on that.

I'd like to see them wait a few years, age all of the characters ahead like 20 years or so, and do a fall of batman story, something like those dark knight returns comics. definitely keep it a trilogy.

Bale is certainly the best bruce wayne. An actor playing batman has to play three parts: batman, bruce wayne-billionare playboy, and bruce wayne-trouble crazy person who dresses like a fucking bat. I love Bale's scene's where he's playing up the playboy act- like in begins where he pretends to be drunk and kicks everyone out, or in dark knight when he's playing dumb in the wrecked Lamborghini. He excels to in playing crazy person bruce wayne; some have said he's micheal corleone like, though i don't see that. Bale's wayne show far to much empathy and pathos to be likened to corleone.

My only beef with bale is his batman voice. It is fucking ridiculous. I remember rewatching batman begins last year and laughing whenever batman talked, and if you've seen DK you know it's only gotten worse/more hilarious. Seriously, someone should have had the bitch girlfriend talk to him and drug him into the corner: 'listen buddy. have you heard yourself? cut that shit out. it's embarrassing.'

Some how about the two darrin's? Recasting sucks unless you're rebooting continuity. I watched Batman Begins last night and even though i think MG is a better actress, katie holmes was better in the part and better looking. Rachel Dawes didn't need the gravity or seriousness that MG brought to it....she needed to be a damsel in distress, and KH filled that need much better. Of course, it could just be the fallout from the recasting. If we'd had MG from the beginning I'd probably feel differently. Maggie is hot, but not in this.

Christopher Nolan is set to make a movie version of The Prisoner next, will it be good? YES.

im a ranker what can i say. everyone is saying that Nicholson's joker sucked. but i think i was perfect for the tone of the movie the way ledger is the right tone for dark night. Jacks the man.

The film did break the record for biggest opening day, midnight show, and weekend.

i like the fail of batman idea. it'll be in a few years, and keep it to the holy trilogy for sure.

i think the voice is supposed to sound amateurish like a normal dude trying to sound SCARY.

i felt like Katie Holmes was talking down to batman alot in BB. but she is hot & dumber, which i guess are the qualifications you need.

Christopher Nolan is now my second favorite director. only Scorsese is better.

even with talk of sequels, i'd be surprised after the gap with a couple more projects under nolan and bale's belts that they'd come back for another film even if it's in the plan now.

bale's gonna have plenty of crazy people to play, nolan's got plenty of stories to tell, there's no other villains as iconic or really that even matter in the franchise that would warrant as good a story or as much interest, and with the joker not being able to be recast it's kind of pointless.

i hope they all have the sense to just let it be the high note it is and let somebody else down the line botch their own version. at least they could leave this intact.

rachel dawes isn't and wasn't supposed to be the ignorant twit lois lane or mary jane were. she was the chick that gave him shit back for being the crazy fuck he was.

the holmes vs gyllenhaal doesn't matter really to me. the first had a much smaller role and suited the fact that holmes is a horrible actress even if she has cute girl looks, the more involved screen time of the second it was probably better it was gyllenhaal so it didn't drag anything down.

whatever happens, between this and the daniel craig bond i haven't felt this excited about action movies since when the die hards and terminators were fresh.

oscars, whatevs. do or don't this will still be a movie worth going back to years down the line and the awards shows are always boring anyway.

The movie is still breaking records at the 10 day mark, though one needs to remember that the last record was made in 2006 when none of us were paying 9 dollars a ticket...with that said let us go on.

His interpretation of the joker is great (i agree with rick though the jack version might still be my fave because he was the joker for that movie just as heath was for this), and they could do another involving the joker again. Clay face my friends. That would be the answer, the joker from the Dark Knight was a fake and just use the new actor as the real joker. Maybe even revisit the penguin because he was inportant in the tv show and the comic series.

Bale quit with the voice.
