Sadistic pleasure (if you’re a sadists)

.

Im a huge fan of Tarantino, have all his movies. I love how he can make you care for a character or at least love every word their saying. Part of the problem with this new movie is unless you speak German & French you will have a hard time loving the language because your just reading for long 20 minute stretches. The movie is worth seeing. I give it 3 stars, but there are some flaws.
The new movie by Tarantino is fun is burst. Long sections were your just waiting around is over half the running time. The film is really a bate and switch. You think from the ads that your going to get guys on the mission. But the real mission is to see how much aimless talking he can make you sit threw. I don’t think this is going to go over well with the average movie patron.
Also most of the characters just aren’t that great, with the main villain and Pitt being the real exceptions. The people you want to spend time with are ignored. Only a couple of the Bastards get any back-story or screen time. And you’re forced to focus on people you don’t like. The German sniper is boring and annoying most of the time. The French girl really just gets bulled around and doesn’t say much. The actress character you never come to know or care about.
Make no mistake there is a sense of fun and vitality here. I just feel like their also personal ego and sadistic desires that Tarantino is working out. These long scenes are all about control. The villains have it and the good side has none. By extension Tarantino has control and we the audience have little. When he wants to be entertaining he’s the best. All the sections with Pitt are awesome. In this movie thought he also wants to use his clout to prove and point that doesn’t need to be proven. Your great we got it, how much more do you want. Give us great characters and lets keep it moving. Movies like Kill Bill & Pulp Fiction are overflowing with ideas. This seems to be stuck in a rut for long sections.

4 stars.

potential spoilers.

Speaking with rick earlier, i realized any real debate on this movie didn't come down to me trying to figure out the film, but figuring out why rick didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of us.

"Long sections were your just waiting around is over half the running time".

- These sections are filled with subtitles and foreign languages i can only assume rick didn't bother to read and follow along with. some of the best interaction was not in english.

"You think from the ads that your going to get guys on the mission. But the real mission is to see how much aimless talking he can make you sit threw."

-yes there are few giant explosions and fight scenes. Apparently tense, intimate scenes of them milking info from nazi's before killing them isn't exciting enough. perhaps he should have just lined up bodies and mowed them down to make you care about the characters more.

the sniper is supposed to be annoying. he's essentially a frat boy of the nazi party.

the french girl gets bullied because she had to be submissive otherwise she'd just be killed right of the rip and not be able to follow out her subversive plans, which are very very personal due to what hans did to her family. take a little to give alot back. duh.

the actress you don't have to have backstory. she's a half wit movie star period. the affinity comes from the fact she turned her back on the country that made her famous.

i think you couldn't fully enjoy this for the same reasons you ignore a huge amount of foreign films.

you don't want to put in the work.

Long Sections- i followed but lost the joy of his command of language.

Tense scenes- involving characters you dont know. they seemed to go know where.

French girl- i understand her plight, however its painful and to watch, just felt like the movie was picking on the audience.

guess im not up to the challenge.

Good review Rick because this is exactly how I felt after Death Proof.

"Long sections were your just waiting around is over half the running time".

When the chicks were in the bar talking for hours it seemed. Yup Yup The chase scene was great but the lead up took way too long.

Dialog does kill
