Albini Summary (for Pete)

it was a very interesting meeting. he started off kind of putting a few rumors to rest about him being an analog elitist. he said the reason he only uses tape is because he has never felt limited by it and has never felt the need to use digital means, and that he has nothing against digital.

another thing he seemed to feel strongly about was him being an engineer and not a producer. he said you cant let your personal opinion of a bands music get in the way of how you record or mix the project.

as far as actual techniques he said he likes to record bands playing together as much as possible. he also said he mics almost everything and goes direct into the board as much as he can. and for drums he said he likes to hear the bleed from other parts of the kit to others. like being able to hear the snare on the mic of the toms and not to gate them as heavily as most people do.

those are most of the high points that i can remember, but if i think of anything else i will post it up

I read an interview with this guy. he spent the entire time talking shit about the people he worked with. he does get a good sound though. He did the reunion album of Page & Plant and his comment was they were really nice for people with the whole world at the feet. Very Nice!
