Smoking
Realized i'm now physically incapable of taking a full deep breath.
it scared me, especially as someone who considers themselves active.
time to stop the nonsense for good.
V, got any advice for fighting off urges besides "just power through it"?

Everything Is Illuminated
Wow!
Good:
Everything - The actors, the plot, scenery, length, EVERYTHING.
Bad:
Not-a
I must send out a special thanks to one Peter Graves who recommended this movie to me a while ago and like my normal fashion I threw it in a pool of movies known to most who have Netflix as my Queue. In there Everything Is Illuminated fought off such gems as The Heartbreak Kid, Boiler Room, Toolbox Murders, Max Payne, Powder Blue and the second season of Prison Break to make its way all the way to top of my Queue to be delivered to my door.
Really, see this movie. It's kind of old ('05) so I'm sure some of yous have already seen it but seriously it's good.
A couple of gems: Sammy Davis Jr Jr, Jonfen (Jonathan with a Czech accent) and my personal favorite...the sexual position 69 got its name because it was invented in 1969. Genius!

Some new music
I want to play a game called:
Underrated, Overrated or about right.
You guys know way more then I do about music so I really want to get your opinion on this. After Jay Z ended the VMA's not only was I not impressed but I thought of the Behind the Music special that featured Lil Wayne and how he talked so highly of Jay Z. Why?
Russel Brand was highlighting his performance throughout last Sunday night and once it was over I ws left with a feeling of emptyness (and a bit aroused thanks to one Alicia Keys).
So I ask on to you Crew of Danger, is Jay Z Underrated, Overrated or is his hype about right?

Honestly, do you like...
....Laurence Fishburne?
I saw a new episode of CSI Las Vegas (my favorite one) and Fishburne took Grissom's place as lead actor. It turned the show into a disaster (that rhymed!!). And then I started thinking besides the first Matrix, what else has he been in that I've liked? I couldn't think of anything. Anyone got anything?

shit my dad says
28 year old Justin lives with his 73 year old father, who says funny things. my favorites:
"I just did an hour on the gym machine. I'm sweaty and I have to shit. Where's my fannypack, this workout is over."
"Your brother brought his baby over this morning. He told me it could stand. It couldn't stand for shit. Just sat there. Big let down."

Stereo Mc's - Connected
Connected - Stereo MCs
Last running to AIK Chunks brought up stereo mc's "connected". It comes on 12 times a day if you're unfortunate enough to work for an applebee's such as us and while there's a few good tracks that do come on the muzak, most of it is unbearable.
Connected is one of the few no matter how frequent i don't get sick of it...
wondered if it was in comparison to the other songs or if it was that good, and also why the hell didn't i know anymore about them with such a perfect song under their belt.
Got the album "connected". Track 1 is the titular, and best, but it's worth going farther.
Album release is within a year of Massive Attacks Blue Lines, and while the similiarities are undeniable, i can't imagine they're a ripoff as much as a result of the time/location/scenes.
S.Mc's much less miserable, more upbeat, but certain tracks are stellar and fit in to a point i feel like I got denied years ago with my inundation into the small world of quality "trip hop", nobody told me there was a happier side.
besides the regs these stand out to me:
all night long-instrumental bordering on some Beastie Boys Root Down e.p. vibe
playing with fire- dead on the same as massive attack, hook vocals and all.still tits.
chicken shake- instrumental with a bass groove that makes me wish Dr. Dre had stolen it and worked his magic.
Give it a go. I think the majority of any weaknesses it may have is dated production, overall it'll sink in and it's not a bad place to hang out for awhile.
download it here.
Really Grizzly Bear
Micheal McDonald guest vocals on an alternate take of Grizzly Bear's "While You Wait For the Others." This is even weirder than it reads.

12 Rounds
Why do I do this to myself?
Good:
Absolutely Nothing
Bad:
So much it would take me forever to type it. Just don't see this movie.
Let me just explain: I've been watching this show called Jerico and there's this chick in it named Ashley Scott:
kinda hot right? But then I saw her in 12 Rounds and it was like a different person:
not really hot? Is it just the short hair? Her nose looks big too. What do you think?

oh no, peter's into house music again
I think that if I heard this song without the aid of this video, I would dismiss it. I still might...Regardless, dig deep in your sock drawer and take whatever pills you find(except niacin), and I promise that this video will show you what you should start doing differently tomorrow.

State of Play
I went to college to do this, but for sports not this.
Good:
The very end of the movie when the credits are rolling, you get to see how a newspaper is made.
Robin Wright Penn - knowing that her and Sean Penn are having marital problems makes her role that much more real. You can see the pain in her face during some scenes.
Jason Bateman - His look was the much needed comic relief.
Bad:
Ben Affleck - do I really need to put anything here?
Kevin Macdonald - I loved the Last King of Scotland. The pace was great and he kept everything interesting but it just wasn't there this time.
I didn't like this movie. Maybe it was the actors (though I do like most of them) or just the plot in general but for suspense movies like this I was kind of bored. There was no "edge of my seat" parts. During the middle I started doing crunches to keep myself awake.

'Bout time we talk about the Elephant in the corner
This is Michael Vick
I don't like this man anymore. I don't respect him, I don't envy him, I would feel good if his body was found in a lake or river. If the person who killed him was discovered I would wear his face on a shirt or possibly praise his or her God. That's right, I hate Michael Vick.
Here's why:
I'm a dog lover like most of the Danger Crew. I think Chunks is the only one with no history of owning one. However, this has very little to do with my decision to be a hater. We all know that Vick was involved in dog fighting and everybody in the sports world and those who I've talked to all believe that he served his crime and that he should bee given another chance. I do not agree.
"Vick himself participated in the killings of eight dogs in April, according to the indictment. The animals were killed "by various methods, including hanging, drowning and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."- full article
A person that can do these things cannot be normal. Cannot be fixed. Cannot be trusted. He realizes that he has to say the right thing, do the right thing or else his life is over. Subjected to a life of riches to rags (he became a construction worker) then back to riches, he knows he has to appear changed, appear rehabilitated to get back into the life he once had.
I'm not buying it. No matter what he says or does, I'm not buying it for a minute. I can't believe that Goodell is letting him back as soon as Week 3. F that. I really want to say this but I don't want anyone to take it the wrong way. So hear me out. When a women gets raped...sorry...the person that does it and gets caught is never looked at the same in society. And rightfully so. He's fucked up. He made a choice and now has to live with it. I'm not comparing the crime just the mentality of the person. Vick is fucked up and he's fooling people.
What do you think? Feels like I'm rambling so I'll end it here.

xx - xx
Per Mike V's request to feature music that we are currently spinning, or at least loading into active memory:
the xx's near eponymous debut, xx. a classic grower, classic fall album, whatever. didn't do much on the first few tries, but repeated listens reaped greater rewards. maybe, i think, because the production is unfussy and thin, this record creeps in slow. but it's a keeper. creeper/keeper. har.
my favorite track of the moment, basic spaces. here:
A little Italians do it better, but better. a little junior boys; austere, programmed guitar songs about fucking, but messier. An original and suprisingly mature debut.

Cowboys and Aliens
Iron Man director Jon Favreau is looking to direct Robert Downey Jr. in an upcoming sci-fi/western, "Cowboys and Aliens." Sounds awesome.
IO9 has the story here.
I suggest genre fans add IO9 to their daily reading. It's a gawker media blog focused on all things scifi/fantasy/comic book. This actually covers a much larger range of tv and movies than you might think.
also, my two favorite sci-fi westerns- Cowboy Bebop and Firefly. I think i like Bebop a bit more. opinions? Anyone that says Brisco County, Jr. is just trying to look cool. I know that no one has seen that in 15 years.
